Try it live Description
A Gift for the Land is a 2D narrative exploration game built around crossing a desert. You play a traveler entering land eroded by wind and sand, moving through one continuous stretch of wasteland past drifting sand, straw checkerboard barriers, windmills, ancient trees and traces left by people. By observing the environment, exploring each scene and making simple interactions, you gradually learn what once happened here.
Wind-blown sand, terrain, plants and a changing environment link the different areas, and moving through them is the exploration itself: setting out from barren ground to find the life that still survives and the hope people left behind.
The game does not tell you in words that the land should be protected. Instead, it lets you walk across the land, see how it has changed, and come to understand the bond between people and land as you explore. "Only the land is worth giving everything for": the team made this world as a gift to the land beneath our feet, everyone's home and homeland.
It was made in Godot, with Codex also used during development. Apart from a small Godot game framework the team had built before the event, everything was made during the hackathon.
How Tripo was used
Tripo sits at the core of the game: the team connected the Tripo API to the Godot engine and used it to bring models into the game in batches.
