Try it live Description
Everyone has someone they keep photographing badly: a partner, a best friend, a parent. "In your photos I'm always four feet tall." Borrowed Light is an AI-native web app that fixes that, made as a gift for that person: a golden-hour world where you finally learn to photograph them.
Drop in their photo (with consent; the server keeps none). In a few minutes Tripo turns it into a rigged, animated 3D person who walks up to you on a seaside causeway, blinks, smiles and speaks first. You shoot with a camera that works like your phone's, with real optics underneath: distance you have to walk, thin-lens depth of field, and metering that backlight can fool.
Then they complain about every photo you take, but only when the flaw is really there, and teach you seven moves that work on any phone in three seconds: step back and zoom, crouch, circle the light, tap the face, pull them away from the background, let the lines point at them, and call their name. Each move is one loop: shoot blind, see what went wrong, practice with guides, shoot again without them, compare, and take three steps home for your own phone. Graduation is one photo with no help, next to your first.
Then take them somewhere you never imagined. World Labs grew walkable worlds from three Van Gogh paintings, a picture of the Moon and one sentence. Stand where Van Gogh stood and the same Tripo person walks into his painting; crouch on the Moon until the Earth sits on their head. An AI darkroom develops any frame into a real photo or paints it in his brushwork. A friend can join from their phone by QR code, pose, speak as their character and press the shutter.
No install, any browser, English and Chinese. Learning stays free; the team would charge for the gift: more people in 3D, more developed photos, a printed figurine. The gift is not a picture. It is the next time you meet, when you crouch, step to the other side of the light, call their name, and take the photo they keep.
How Tripo was used
Tripo is the core of the loop, and it runs live for every player.
- Pipeline: the person's photo is redrawn by AI as a full-body image, turned into 3D with Tripo image-to-3D v3.1, auto-rigged (41 bones) and given 6 animation presets, then delivered as a 2 MB GLB that is swapped in mid-game, all within 3 to 8 minutes.
- Faces and lighting: every character in the world is a Tripo body. The team made Tripo faces blink, smile and lip-sync with a texture-space shader (no blendshapes) and toon-lit them for the backlight lessons.
- Into paintings and onto the Moon: the same person walks into Van Gogh's paintings and onto the Moon, in worlds grown by World Labs.
