Planet of Us

A planet from a whole friend group: each friend sends a photo and a line, AI draws them as storybook figurines holding gifts, and Tripo turns them into 3D figures who gather on a little planet around the friend who lights everyone up.

Description

Planet of Us is a planet given by a whole group of friends. Each friend sends one photo and writes one line; AI draws everyone as a storybook figurine holding a gift, Tripo turns the figurines into 3D, and they all stand together on a small planet around the person being celebrated.

Every friend group has someone like this: they remember everyone's birthday, they're the first to show up when you move, they're always lighting up other people, yet rarely does anyone do something for them in return. This planet is a gift for that person, given not by one friend but by all of them together.

It works in five steps, all running live online:

  • Start: enter their name and the occasion to get two links, one to invite friends and one to hand over on the day.
  • Step onto the planet: friends open the link on their phones with no app or sign-up, pick a photo with themselves in it and tap themselves, write a line only the guest of honor can read (sealed until the day), and choose a gift to hold.
  • Become 3D: GPT Image draws each friend as a storybook figurine holding the gift, and Tripo generates a textured 3D model that replaces the paper cutout a minute or two later. The organizer can watch everyone's progress live.
  • Open: on the day, the guest of honor breaks a wax seal. The planet paints itself from pencil sketch to watercolor, stroke by stroke, and the friends appear one by one with their lines. Golden threads flow toward the guest of honor and become a crown of stars, fireworks go up, and the planet's dark side fills with stars.
  • Keep: tap each friend to read their line and see the memory photo, write back to everyone, make a poster, or export the whole planet as a printable glTF.

The planet itself was made with Tripo too: 188 props of 16 kinds (cottages, windmills, stone bridges, piers, sailboats, trees and flowers) form a village, a stream, a coastline and five small islands, rendered in the browser with the team's own storybook shader, layered water and real-time shadows. Making a planet is free, and the same planet can become a physical keepsake: a full-color resin print, or hand-painted blue-and-white porcelain with every friend's name on the base (preorders coming soon). Friends' photos are only used to draw the figurines and are never shown publicly.

How Tripo was used

Tripo builds the whole gift, and the team then brings it off the screen.

  • Friends: each friend is one live Tripo image-to-3D run (v3.1, detailed geometry, PBR textures, de-lit), with the storybook figurine drawn by GPT Image as input. Every photo is sent together with the same style reference image, so the whole group shares one art style.
  • The planet: 16 kinds of Tripo objects are instanced into 188 props that make up the village, coast and islands.
  • Print-ready: the browser measures each figurine's wall thickness and counts its overhangs, thickens only what can't be printed while leaving the face and body untouched, then exports STL or full-color GLB for resin, FDM or porcelain.
