Description

Space Archaeology is a virtual archaeology of orbit for Apple Vision Pro. It excavates the residue of half a century of human spaceflight to ask what kind of inheritance we are building above the Earth. The author made it as a gift to the starry sky.

Humanity keeps sending more into space: satellites, probes, debris. The author hopes that, looking up at the stars in the future, what they feel will still be humility before life itself. The experience is told from the perspective of someone in that future: step by step, you move through space and discover how humans came to understand the cosmos, and how we have changed it.

Along the way are 3D spaces built from the author's own designs, a spaceship scene and an area for choosing a spacesuit, as well as pieces of space debris such as a glove, each a separate object you can grab. There is tragedy and there are odes, but all of it comes back to respect: this is not a story of conquering the universe, but a quiet reminder that we are small, and we are brave.

Before the hackathon, the author had only a flat 2D Figma design, with no code and no 3D. The 3D spaces and objects generated with Tripo and the Apple Vision Pro app, with navigation and grabbable objects, were all built during the event.

How Tripo was used

Tripo was the core driver of the 3D content. Before the hackathon the author had only a flat 2D Figma design; every 3D space and object was generated with Tripo.

  • 3D spaces: Tripo turned the Figma screens into 3D spaces and helped build the spaceship scene and the area for choosing a spacesuit.
  • Objects: Tripo generated the objects inside them, such as space debris like a glove, each a separate grabbable asset, all prompted to match the colors of the author's mockups.
  • Time saved: according to the author, Tripo replaced weeks of manual 3D modeling.
