Description

A Gift for My Past Self is a narrative game that lets you walk back into personal memories. You return to a moment in life that has stayed with you, re-entering the scene either as who you were then or as your adult self. By moving, observing, talking and handling objects, you live through the moment a choice was made and see what different decisions leave behind. The game is not about an abstract "what if I could do it over." It is about the few minutes before a choice: what you saw, what you were thinking, why you hesitated, and why, in the end, you reached out.

Act one, "The Seat by the Window," takes place in a small-town burger shop on a rainy day. As a child you were hungry; holding two coins, you asked how much a burger cost and gave up because you didn't have enough. Later, beside a schoolbag by the window, you find a kids' meal voucher. It could get you a meal right away, but it clearly isn't yours. You have to choose between hunger and kindness: use the voucher for food, or hand it to the staff for the lost and found.

If you return it, the worker recognizes you as the kid who just asked about the price. Instead of letting you use someone else's voucher, she brings out the staff meal she had saved for herself and invites you to sit by the window and eat. You didn't take what wasn't yours, and your kindness earned you help that truly was.

The kids' meal is only the first act. Later chapters will move through different ages and stages of life, telling of choices about leaving, silence, forgiveness, perseverance and letting go. Each act is a stretch of life you can live through again, and a gift to your past self. The author made it for everyone who has made a choice at a crossroads and looked back at themselves since: the gift does not rewrite the past, but helps you see again why you chose as you did, and how those choices became the life that followed.
