Description

Animation City: The Sky We Dreamed Of is the author's gift to their younger self. As a child, the author used to hold a hand out of the car window and imagine having wings, wishing to follow the wind into the worlds they saw in cartoons.

This little city lives among the clouds, built from floating islands, a fairytale castle, waterfalls and the stone bridges that link them. Airships and balloons drift overhead, a train runs along its tracks, and geese alternate between flapping and gliding. You can fly right into the scenery yourself, leaving a fading trail of rainbows and stars behind you.

It is a gentle, story-led experience built around flight and discovery. Simple tutorials help you take off. By day, follow paper planes and kites, approach landmarks in the sky and collect scenic postcards; then switch to night without leaving your journey, as the castle and streetlights glow beneath the moon, shooting stars cross the sky and fireworks bloom above the city. There is no timer, and you don't need to be an expert player: circle the castle, rest on a rooftop, or hover quietly and watch the world go by.

More than a beautiful place, this gift is a reply to a childhood wish: the sky you once dreamed of is somewhere you can finally go. It is also for everyone who still dreams of flying. The game was built in Unity, with Blender and 3ds Max also used in production; Codex assisted with scene integration, character controls, flight effects, day/night switching and story interactions.

How Tripo was used

Tripo is where the city in the clouds got its assets.

  • Generated models: the 3D models used to build Animation City were generated with Tripo, then imported into Unity, organized into prefabs, given materials and assembled into an explorable world.
  • Room to focus: with Tripo handling asset creation, the author could put more attention into atmosphere, gameplay and the idea of a flying experience as a gift to their younger self.
