Description

Coney Circus is an animated series for children that brings the fun of making things and the thrill of a challenge through upcycled DIY art. The stop-motion series follows Coney and her friends as they travel from place to place, putting on a traveling circus show built from objects recycled from everyday life.

This entry is the series' opening, a gift for those who have forgotten creativity and adventure. The author calls it "a journey to find the greatest creator of my childhood." It mixes several production techniques: 3D keyframe animation, miniature backgrounds, upcycled props and AI.

The author has been creating characters and animation for more than five years, and for parts of this opening built a new animation workflow with Tripo, Blender, Adobe software and Higgsfield, with Midjourney also in the toolkit. The team used the opening to explore practical ways of turning images into 3D models and of bringing generative AI into a traditional production pipeline.

How Tripo was used

For this opening, the team tested Tripo as a way to turn images into 3D models.

  • Backgrounds and props: converting background and prop designs into 3D models normally takes a lot of time and money, so the team used this opening to explore practical ways of turning images into usable 3D models.
  • Rendering in Blender: Tripo was a great help in the rendering process in Blender.
  • Workflow experiment: the project also tested how generative AI can fit into a traditional animation pipeline.
