Download app Description
Desktop Cat is a desktop pet app that lets you keep a cat of your own on your computer desktop. The author made this cat as a gift for everyone who wants one: people who want a cat around all the time, people who want one at work, and people who can only love cats online.
It is an early prototype for now, but having a cat keep you company between tasks is already fun every time you see it. The cat is a calico, and its autonomous behavior, AI and desktop interactions run on the project's own systems.
How Tripo was used
Tripo is the starting point of the calico cat's character asset: the author turned multi-view modeling into a traceable, step-by-step pipeline, and the rest of the work builds on it.
- From four views to a skeleton: starting from four reference views of a calico cat, split and cleaned up, the author called Tripo in sequence to generate a textured model, reduce its polygon count, check whether it could be rigged and generate a quadruped skeleton.
- Working with Blender and Unity: Tripo supplied the character model, textures and initial skeleton; Blender handled geometry cleanup, reassigning the bones' roles and animation, while Unity was used for material comparisons and runtime checks. The author also documented how to reinterpret Tripo's generated bones by their actual position and skin influence rather than copying their names.
- Where it stands: the pipeline is currently used to produce and verify the character asset; the cat running in the demo has not yet been swapped directly for its output.
