Janggi Legends reimagines Janggi, Korea's traditional strategy game, as a 3D historical strategy game. Players enter a world inspired by five historic realms and eras (Goguryeo, Baekje, Silla, Goryeo and Joseon) and command character-like pieces on a traditional 9×10 Janggi board.
It pairs the depth of a classic board game with 3D characters, historical themes, campaign progression and a world that changes as the player advances. Each faction has its own visual identity, atmosphere and sense of history, so players who are new to Janggi can discover it in a more approachable, visual way.
The game is a gift for strategy fans around the world who want to discover Korean culture through play. Rather than presenting Janggi only as a traditional board game, it turns it into a living world where strategy, history and character come together.
The core rules, the playable 3D board, the character pieces, the five historical factions and the main game, lobby and campaign foundation existed before Tripothon S1. During the hackathon, the author expanded it from five factions to nine, adding Japanese, French, Chinese and Viking-themed factions and bringing their 3D units into playable and test flows, and refined the international presentation, faction visuals, camera work and gameplay showcase.
How Tripo was used
For Tripothon S1, Tripo was used to expand the 3D world with new game-ready assets that strengthen the visual identity of the historical factions and environments.
- What was generated: selected 3D character pieces, including king and soldier prototypes, generated and iterated with Tripo.
- Pipeline: the outputs were cleaned up, adjusted and brought into the Babylon.js pipeline as game-ready GLB assets.
- Impact: Tripo shortened the path from concept to playable asset and helped set up a scalable process for adding faction-specific characters and units.
