Mingshan

Handwrite a name ten times and it grows into a mountain, one bead for every pass of your pen. As water floods in, the name surfaces and then breaks into islands, and a small gift made with Tripo can sit on the summit.

Description

Mingshan turns a handwritten name into a place. You write a name by hand on your phone, ten times over. The app counts how many of your ten writings cross each cell of a grid, and that count becomes height: one bead for each, stacked up. After the tenth, a small mountain stands where the name was.

Then opaque water flows in from the edge. At a certain level, the name surfaces out of the water, then breaks into islands. The mountain itself is never generated: its shape is your hand, and its height is a count. The small gifts you can place on the summit are made with the Tripo API from a line of words and recolored to the mountain's palette.

A name is the first thing most of us learn to write, and the thing we write most often. Writing someone's name ten times is an act of care, and the author wanted that care to become a place rather than a card. Mingshan means "famous mountain" in Chinese, and literally "name mountain". Two thousand years ago, the historian Sima Qian wrote that he would store his life's work in a famous mountain, to be passed on to the right person.

Mingshan is a gift to every name. Whoever opens the link raises the water and watches the name surface in your handwriting.

How Tripo was used

Every personalized 3D gift on the summit comes from the Tripo API.

  • From a line of words: users type a line and get a unique 3D gift from Tripo's text-to-3D API in about a minute.
  • Ready-made: they can also choose from 26 ready-made Tripo models.
  • Recolored: every model is dynamically recolored to match the mountain's custom palette and the Three.js renderer.
