Description
Only Cats Know is the story of a young woman and a white cat. After failing one job interview after another, she heads home alone, discouraged, and on the way she comes across a white cat and takes it in. From then on, the lonely woman and the little cat keep each other company and comfort each other, each becoming a source of warmth in the other's quiet life.
Late at night, once she is fast asleep, the job-hunting stress, anxiety and dark thoughts she has bottled up during the day quietly condense into a dream orb of her own, opening a fantastical dream world that humans cannot see and only cats can enter. There, the Nebula Meow God asks the white cat whether it is willing to bring its owner good luck and protect her smile. The dream world has gentle rules: a cat cannot rewrite reality or make its owner's troubles disappear, but through the power of dreams it can give her hidden good luck and emotional release. To heal her, the white cat bravely charges into her nightmare orb and scrambles the chaos inside, letting her subconscious catch something important she had overlooked and turning the nightmare around. Then it travels to a dazzling good-dream orb and finds a pure, beautiful seashell, which finally releases the bad feelings she has carried for so long.
The next morning, she unexpectedly gets an invitation to a new interview and feels her luck has quietly turned, never knowing that on countless nights her little cat has been running alone through dreams no one sees, guarding her in silence. She looks after the cat with food and toys; what the cat gives back are gifts no one can see: company day and night, quiet protection, and the healing and luck hidden in dreams. As the cat says: "You don't know it, but I give you a gift every day." We care for their bodies; they care for our souls.
Told in a fantastical, healing animation style, the film looks at young people's anxiety about life and the emotional drain they carry, and challenges the idea that people simply raise their pets, showing companionship and rescue running both ways. There is no dramatic conflict and no superpower that rewrites fate, only a gentle kind of strength. It is a gift for every cat owner, and a tribute to every bond in which people and pets heal each other.
This is an original, AI-assisted animated short. In pre-production, the author developed the original script and discussed with ChatGPT how to present it, then worked out shot designs and character and scene settings, building two worlds, reality and dream, each with its own look: heavy and oppressive for reality, a dreamy nebula for the dreams. For assets, ChatGPT helped select material and settle the overall art style; Jiaotu created the nebula, dream orbs, good-dream orb and nightmare orb, as well as the designs for the woman, the white cat and the Nebula Meow God; TapNow organized the storyboard and produced first drafts of the AI video; and PixVerse turned still artwork and scene assets into fluid animated shots. Finally, everything was cut, color-graded and finished in CapCut with background music, subtitles and transitions.
