3D Companion Table Pet is a 3D desktop pet made for companionship. The American Shorthair kitten that now lives on the desktop is modeled on Banxia, a cat who belongs to the author's friend: chatty, greedy and timid, fond of napping on people's clothes, and a little chubby.
When the author started building the app, Banxia was not part of the plan. The first character came from a pet-catching game the author often played and loved, in the hope that its pets could keep them company outside the game too. But when the author showed the first version to Banxia's owner, she said it would be wonderful if it could be her own Banxia instead.
The friend works during the day and only gets to spend mornings and evenings with her cat. Wanting her to feel her kitten nearby even at work, the author reworked the model with Banxia as the reference and made a round, chubby little cat. It is a gift for Banxia, and for the friend.
The app was built with Three.js and Tauri 2, with the character's animation done in Blender. Codex and GPT-6 Astra helped plan the project's direction, specs and acceptance checks, and all the logic code and app UI were written by GPT.
How Tripo was used
The kitten's base model came from Tripo. The author used Tripo P2 to generate the base character mesh with smart UVs, created its materials from the same set of reference images, and exported it to Blender; the clean topology and UVs made the later animation work easier.
