Try it live Description
If China's cities became miniature worlds you could turn and explore, what would catch your eye first? CityRoam is the author's gift to everyone curious about China. It brings 16 cities, including Guangzhou, Beijing, Shanghai and Chengdu, into the browser as interactive miniatures, so that a building, a local shop or a bowl of food can be a place to start getting to know the country.
Rotate and zoom to look over the streets and landmarks, then click a place to inspect its 3D model and read about it in Chinese or English. Discover the curves of Canton Tower, the roofs of Beijing's Temple of Heaven, the buildings on Shanghai's Bund and Chengdu's Anshun Bridge. At food stops, switch between the storefront and the food models. Tiny pedestrians, moving vehicles and ambient sounds bring a touch of everyday life to each scene.
The author hopes this gift offers an inviting window into China. No itinerary or knowledge of Chinese is needed: just open the page, choose a city and follow your curiosity. Perhaps a building detail or a dish you have never tried will make you want to learn more about a place, or even visit it yourself one day.
How Tripo was used
Tripo is central to CityRoam's asset creation, linking reference images to a playable web experience.
- Image-to-3D: reference images of landmarks and food are turned into textured 3D models.
- Into the browser: combined with OpenAI image generation, mesh and texture optimization, and Three.js, the models power the 16-city miniature park and its interactive detail views.
